Bay Retriever competed in Annapolis Race Week non-spin class. Three days of intense Annapolis racing, with winds ranging from moderate (for the Chesapeake) to nearly non-existent, with similar tides. On race 1 day 1, Bay Retriever corrected over a Beneteau 46 with a full racing crew in matching polos. In the second race, Bay Retriever finished near her rating but didn't do anything spectacular. On day 2, the tides were pushing hard against the entire fleet. We had a 15 minute postponement at the start, then it took us another half hour to cross the starting line. After that, there was too much going on to pay attention to where the fleet was. That is, until an hour and a half in to the race when we passed boats that started half an hour before us, and boats in our fleet that rated over 100 sec/mile faster! But alas, we didn't finish.

The third race of the Summer Series was cancelled due to lack of wind. Bay Retriever's current competition is a Tartan 33 that rates 39 seconds/mile faster, but I still think she has a chance to win on uncorrected time.

Finished 1st in the BCYA Jim Fox Memorial Series Non-spin class. The only other yacht competing was an Express 30 that rated 63 seconds/mile faster!

Annapolis-St. Michaels Race and Race Back. Didn't finish the first day (course 20 miles) due to dying winds, but finished the 12-mile race back in four hours, 25 minutes, sailing downwind in light airs w/ no spinnaker pole.
2002 Fall Series Summary
Finished 9th out of 10 boats in the November Fall series (By competing in one more race than the 10th place boat). Not a great start for a racing career, but then how good can a 24 year old cruising boat with worn out sails and a crew of two expect to do against race-ready J24s and Mumm 30s with full crews?
